The shutters of the hall windows presented a bleak image to passers by
on St Paul's Road and as they were often down gave people the impression that the church was closed.
It was decided to paint them with murals to brighten the streetscene. As there are four shutters
we opted to follow the theme of the four seasons with a picture relevant to the particular season.
Winter
A scene showing the nativity.
A traditional
crib scene showing the birth of Jesus
Summer
A picture with refreshing
water and a dove. The dove is a symbol of Pentecost
Spring
A scene with three crosses on a hill reminding people
of the crucifixionand at the foot of the hill an empty tomb with its stone rolled away
Autumn
A time of harvest so a picture with a bunch of grapes
and an ear of corn together with the chalice and wine, symbols of Communion.
